Momentary Worship

Momentary Worship, effectively employs the raw and imperfect nature of printmaking alongside videography to enhance its thematic impact. The unedited quality of the video clips further reinforces this rawness. Iriana explores the fleeting nature of devotion against the backdrop of war and conflict in Gaza. Her use of screen printing to depict traditional keffiyeh patterns—an emblematic Palestinian garment—connects global audiences with the moral and cultural values represented by this symbol. Similarly, her oil paintings evoke a profound emotional response, portraying the distress and loss experienced by a mother and child, who remain resolutely devoted to their quest for freedom. By creating a traditional Palestinian garment with intentional imperfections, Iriana reflects the authenticity and fragmentation of the issue at hand. She also includes footage of a Palestinian flag in Melbourne, highlighting the transient nature of short-term protests and their impact on personal beliefs. The minimal editing and absence of sound in her work invite viewers to reflect deeply and form their own moral perspectives, moving beyond superficial engagement with the subject matter.
