‘Alone in Love’ is a series of five photographs which depicts the gut-wrenching sentiment of feeling alone and isolating oneself whilst being in an unhealthy relationship. This series of photographs was photographed in July of 2024 on a Nikon SLR camera and edited using Apple’s photo editing tools as well as Adobe’s Photoshop and printed on matte paper displayed on a 3mm thick 50x180cm black board, each individual photograph is 40cm tall with various widths to convey the idea of disproportion in unbalanced relationships. The woman imaged is ex-girlfriend Jemma Edwards. These photographs are viewed in contrast to work made in Unit 3 which all centered around the notion of “touch”, ‘alone in love’ however is the opposite, outlining a story of falling out of love. Ria invites the viewers to reflect on their past relationships, especially those times where they didn’t feel seen by their partners.
