Study Desk

Plywood

The end user for this product is primarily year 12 students, who are over boarded with the stress of year 12 studies and need to improve their study habits from the comfort of their home. They will utilize this desk with the primary function of studying/working, yet to also improve their concentration, motivation and organisation whilst studying as a secondary function. To consider User-Centred Design, the desk will have a diverse desk height, ensuring it’s has comfortability to fit the needs of the end user, associating for ergonomics of the end user through different heights and body builds. The desk will provide a large bench top space, to ensure there is enough room for all necessary stationary, computers and books, further improving ergonomics of the product.  To include creativity and innovation into my design, by making a roof and surrounding walls, it will provide a feeling of enclosure, removing background noise and other distractions. This will also make the desk feel more like an office space, making the end user less distracted as they won’t feel that they are working at real office job from the comfort of their home.  The desk will also feature draws to ensure there is space to store work, stationary or anything that will improve the organisation of the end user. I have included a wooden material, such as recycled plywood. This will ensure the desk is strong and durable, to support the weight of the walls and roof, giving the product a long life. In addition, by using recycled plywood, it considers the sustainability of the desk.  Also, I have gathered materials from a local location, removing the need for excessive shipping which will reduce the carbon footprint and the economic cost of shipping.
