Para Side Table
Jarrah Plywood & Glass
Unit 3 and 4 Product Design and Technology
SAT Folio and Product
The Para Side Table is made mostly from Jarrah plywood, as well as glass for the tabletop and dowel to connect the frames of wood together. It was manufactured for four end users, a family, who will use it next to the couch in their living room. It would be used to place and store items such as plates, cups, and the TV remote so that those items are not placed on the floor, where they could be tripped on or damaged. This design was inspired by the parametric design style, with the organic spiral and the separated sheets of material being major features. The glass tabletop was carefully selected, as it enables users to see the spiral of the frame of the table from above, which is another design feature. The Jarrah frames were carefully constructed, and then precisely connected with evenly sized dowels to separate the frames and enhance the parametric design element.
