For my work ‘Of the Transcendental’ I was working in response to my theme of ‘Below the Surface’. As such, I explored within this piece the idea of a world adjacent to our own, utilising imagery well known to us, and moving across the triptych into a completely mythical world. I aimed to explore a sense of otherworldliness through the creation of mythical creatures and imagery, which took inspiration from real-life tales, such as the transforming dog or the elven creature. In the use of highly detailed carving, I sought to craft another world that was deeply immersive, encouraging the viewer to wander about the piece and seek out the narrative within.
