As a response to my theme of ‘Dreaming’, I chose for my subject matter to be driven by my potential directions 2 and 3, eventually settling on my final presentation for unit 4 being a short 7 second digital video of a blue fire, animated in stop motion, mostly through small paintings of acrylic paint on gesso-covered cardboard, accompanied by a soundscape of crackling fire and low drums. As I developed my artwork, I placed a significant degree of focus on the planned aesthetic quality of my piece. Rather than the simple initial plan of recreating dreams through application of artistic techniques and materials, I instead chose to attempt to recreate the feeling of having a dream. I would accomplish this by employing somewhat hypnotic, surreal, and disconcerting aesthetic quality in my piece, taking inspiration from the photography of Nicolas Bruno, film work of Alejandro Jodorowsky, and paintings by Louise Hearman.
